Today, Jackson turned two! Naturally, we started the day with presents. With
Christmas a mere two days ago, Jackson's unwrapping skills were still fresh.
Last night, Oahu had a crazy lightning storm that caused an island-wide power outage. Unfortunately, Howard and I were unable to assemble his new easel in time, but Jackson played with the paint brushes and easel parts anyway.
He also seemed to like his new sneakers.
The weather also disrupted our party plans. We wanted to take Jackson to a bounce house, then out to lunch. However, the mall where we were headed was still out of power this morning, so we needed to change plans at the last minute. We moved the party to the
Hawaii Children's Discovery Center, which was an excellent choice. Jackson and Nesta were thrilled by the interactive displays, toys and exhibits.
We followed all that discovery with a picnic at the park. Nana and Papa picked up burgers and fries, per Jackson's request, and we chowed down while enjoying the pleasant weather.

Since our original plan involved lunch at an ice cream parlor, we hadn't made arrangements for a cake. However, Nana insisted that she see Jackson blow out his candles. He was also anxious to "blow candle," so we spontaneously went to get dessert. Jackson tried hard to carry out this birthday tradition, but I accidentally blew it out for him while trying to help. Without my interruption, he succeeded in blowing out the candle, and we repeated the task several more times because he had so much fun.
