Over the last few months, Jackson has been watching a series of documentaries: Walking with Dinosaurs (along with Prehistoric Planet, which is the kid-oriented version narrated by Ben Stiller), Walking with Monsters and Walking with Prehistoric Beasts. They cover the age of the dinosaurs, as well as the time periods before dinosaurs existed and after they went extinct. Jackson is fascinated by all of the prehistoric reptiles, birds, fish and mammals.
When we went to the zoo yesterday, Jackson was most interested in seeing the mammals which have evolved from those in the documentaries. His first priority was the rhinoceros, and we were fortunate to see - and smell - the rhino in all his glory. We also saw the tortoise and lizard, as well as the tiger and lions, present-day relatives of the saber-tooth cats we've been learning so much about.
This was also the first zoo trip that Macy truly enjoyed. She was startled by the lions, but she curiously observed the meerkats and hyper antelopes. We also watched a mama duck with her little ducklings.
